Lankayan Island

Pulau Lankayan is an entity belonging to Malaysia island in the Sulu Sea and is located approximately 80 kilometers off the northeast coast of Borneo. The island is since 2001 part of the marine reserve Sugud Islands Marine Conservation Area ( SIMCA ). Lankayan and also situated in this area islands of Pulau Pulau Tegaipil and Billean are as dive sites and important breeding grounds for the most vulnerable hawksbill turtles ( Eretmochelys imbricata ) and green turtles (Chelonia mydas ) are known.

Pulau Lankayan is an oval, wooded island whose canopy up to 34 m rise above the sea level. The only building on the island is a dive resort. The number of tourists on Lankayan is regulated state; it may up to 60 guests can be recorded simultaneously at the resort.

To protect the island and the tourists - Pulau Langkayan is located in the Sulu Sea threatened by pirates - are housed on the atoll a permanently manned station of the navy and a radar station.
