Lao Loum

The Lao Loum (Lao ລາວ ລຸ່ມ, Thai ลาว ลุ่ม, literally " Lowland Laotians " ) are one of the three defined by the Government of ethnic groups in Laos. The Lao Loum are mainly to be found in the valleys and lowland areas along the Mekong River. They make up more than 68 % of the population of Laos. Among them are the ethnic majority of the Lao, but also summarized smaller groups such as Tai Phuan, Phuthai and Tai Lue.

The religion of the vast majority of Lao Loum is Theravada Buddhism, partly mixed with animist elements.
