Lapsang Souchong

Lapsang Souchong (Chinese正 山 小 种/正 山 小 种, Pinyin Zhengshan xiǎozhǒng ) is a Chinese tea specialty, a so-called smoke tea. True Lapsang Souchong comes from Zheng Shan part of the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province and is rare because the Wuyi Mountains are a relatively small region, while there is a great demand for the tea. There is a big taste difference between real Lapsang Souchong and such, which comes from other regions, and only the name " Lapsang Souchong " bears.

Production

Strong, black großblättriger is smoked in the smoke of smoldering pine roots, or on burning, resinous spruce wood, roasted in a pan, rolled and oxidized before it is smoked again finished in bamboo baskets over pine or spruce. This gives Lapsang Souchong characteristic for this type of tea, strong smoke flavor, reminiscent of fire and superimposed on the actual tea flavor.

Lapsang Souchong is either drunk pure or mixed with other teas to give them a spicy smoky taste. Sometimes this type of tea is also used for cooking as a flavoring addition.

Lapsang Souchong is not bitter, even with longer steeping time, it is therefore suitable for use in the samovar.
