Largo is a city in Pinellas County in the U.S. state of Florida with 77 648 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Largo is located on the west coast of Florida between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The city is bordered by the cities of Belleair, Belleair Bluffs, Indian Rocks Beach, Clearwater and Pinellas Park. Largo is located about 20 km west of Tampa.

History

Largo was mentioned from 1905. In 1913 it was the first municipality in Pinellas County its own city council as local political body. Most important source of income was up in the sixties agriculture before increasing urban workers from surrounding regions used the city as a permanent place of residence, which is why it was often referred to as a " bedroom community ". From 1905 to 2005, the area of ​​the city, therefore, to around 44 square kilometers and the population of about 300 grew to more than 70,000 inhabitants. Largo has a town twinning with the Japanese city Kōchi (also called Kami ), a merger of the former municipalities Kahoku and Tosayamada in the same prefecture in Japan Kōchi.

Demographics

The population density was 1702.8 inh. / Km ². 86.3 % of the population were white, 5.6% African American, 0.3% Native American and 2.7 % Asian Americans. 2.8% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.4% in different ethnic groups. 9.0 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 37.9 % of all households lived in 19.0 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 51.5 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.02 persons and the average family size is 2.67 people.

17.5 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.9% were 20-39 years old, 27.4 % were 40-59 years old and 33.1% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 48 years. 47.2 % of the population were male and 52.8 % female.

The average annual income was $ 40,493, while 12.9 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 90.62 % of the population spoke Spanish 4.01% and 5.37% had a different mother tongue.

Traffic

Largo is 595, 651, 686, 688 and 693 crossed by U.S. Highway 19 and the Florida State Roads 128. On the eastern edge of the city is St. Petersburg- Clearwater International Airport.

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 421 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were three murders, 39 rapes, 131 robberies, 333 injuries, 527 burglaries, 2,668 thefts, 152 vehicle thefts, and 14 arsons.
