Larry Edward Foote, Jr. ( born June 12, 1980 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American professional American football player at the position of linebackers. He plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League ( NFL). Foote won with the Pittsburgh Steelers two Super Bowls (Super Bowl XL and Super Bowl XLIII).

College

Foote attended the University of Michigan and played for the college team, the Michigan Wolverines, Football and studied kinesiology. Foote played in 28 of a total of 48 games for the Wolverines. During this period he scored 212 tackles, including 145 solo, and he managed eleven bag. In addition, he scored 44 stops, with which the adversaries he earned a total of 153 yards loss of space. He started at the line of scrimmage three interceptions and prevented further 18 passes. With this capacity, he is the fourth of the University 's history. He was appointed during his college days twice in the first- team Big Ten selection and once selected for the First Team All- American selection. He received the 2001 Roger Zatkoff Award for best linebacker and was honored by the sports newspaper The Sporting News with the Defense Player of the Year Award.

Draft

He was selected in the fourth round in 2002 to 128 out of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL Draft.

Professional career

In his rookie year Foote played in 14 games and reached 44 tackles. In his second year he did not play on special teams a greater role than in the previous year, but on its common position of linebackers. He managed this season only six tackles. In his third year he played back to the linebacker position and made 69 tackles and three quarterback sack. In the 2005 season, played the Steelers, led by young quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, strong, and went with a score of 11:5 in the NFL play-offs one. Foote played well and had contributed by his good performances to the fact that the Steelers won the Super Bowl this year. In the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos he achieved an important interception. He caught the pass from Denver quarterback Jake Plummer from right at the line of scrimmage and the game tilted in favor of the Steelers who came through this interception in possession and the hitherto strong Broncos fell out of step. The Steelers won the game at the end with 34:17 and thus attracted into the Super Bowl XL. Foote's interception is considered Schlüsselspielzug who brought the game up to that unexpected turn. In the 2008 season with the Steelers Foote reached his second final, the Super Bowl XLIII, he was able to win with 27:23 with the Steelers against the Arizona Cardinals. During the season he scored 81 tackles and three sack, he also caught an interception. Although he played well with the Steelers, he got less and less play, as the Steelers put on the 2007 gedrafteten Lawrence Timmons.

He left the Steelers on 4 May 2009 and signed two days later, on 6 May 2009 a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions. Thus Foote played for the first time in his hometown of Detroit for the Lions.

On 15 March 2010 Foote signed a three-year contract with his former team, the Steelers.
