Larry Langford

Larry Paul Langford ( born March 17, 1948 in Birmingham, Alabama ) is a former American politician and November 2007 to October 2009 the 30th mayor of Birmingham, Alabama. In October 2009 he was found guilty by a federal court, inter alia, bribery and later sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Langford graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and graduated in Sotial Sciences and Education. Thereafter, he served in the United States Air Force. After his return to Birmingham where he became one of the first African-American television reporter in the 1970s. He was for the TV station WBRC / Channel 6 (now FOX6 ) where he received several awards for his work. In 1977 he was elected to the Birmingham City Council. In 1988 he was elected mayor of Fairfield, a suburb of Birmingham. This office he held until 2000. During this time, he emphasized his Christian faith and especially doubted that the U.S. Constitution call for the separation of church and state.

He is serving his sentence in the Federal Correctional Institution, Ashland, a federal prison in Ashland, Kentucky to expected May 2023 ..

Langford is married and has one son and two grandchildren.
