Lars Sjösten

Lars Sjösten ( born May 7, 1941 in Oskarshamn, † 19 October 2011) was a Swedish jazz pianist and composer.

Life and work

Sjösten occurred in the 1960s, often in the jazz club Gyllene Cirkeln, where he accompanied, inter alia, jazz greats as Ben Webster, Art Farmer, or the Swedes Bernt Rosengren. Since 1971, he took on albums under his own name. He also played in the group of saxophonist Lars Gullin, with Dexter Gordon ( The Shadow of Your Smile ), Benny Bailey, Lee Konitz ( whom he accompanied on the album "Dedicated to Lee" in 1983 with its own octet), the Norwegian saxophonist Bjarne Nerem Putte Wickman and. He played with own quartet ( with baritone saxophonist Gunnar Bergsten, drummer Bo Söderberg and bassist Patrik Boman ) own compositions and those of Gullin. In 1990, his album In Confidence, 1997, he worked at Rolf Ericson's album I Love You So ... with.

In 1997 he received the Lars- Christer Gullin Price and 2006 Bousted price. For the solo album "Select Notes" he received in 1981 Gyllene Skivan of Orkesterjournals, and also with his quartet in 1989 for Roots and Relations (Dragon).
