Lashkar Gah ( Pashto: لښکرګاه, Dari: لشکرگاه ), historical name Bost, is the capital of the southern Afghan province of Helmand as well as the name of the surrounding district. The city is located 773 m height. The district has about 200,000 inhabitants ( 2006) and is one of the largest in the province of Helmand. Lashkar Gah is located between the rivers Helmand and Arghandab. By highways it is with the cities of Kandahar to the east, Zaranj connected to the west and Herat to the northwest. From Bost Airport, which lies on the eastern side of the Helmand River, there are connections by the domestic airlines Ariana Afghan Airlines and Pamir Airways with other Afghan cities.
