Lasse-Maja

Lasse - Maja, actually Lars Larsson Molin (* 1785 in Ramsberg in Västmanland, † 1845), was a Swedish trick thief. On his tours around the country thieves disguised himself always as a woman. From this habit stirred his nickname Lasse - Maja ago. Frequently he took a job as a housekeeper in private homes. Once he had robbed them, he dressed back to normal and could, as a woman was sought escape in this way long arrest. But after he had stolen the church silver in the Church of Järfälla, he was arrested in 1813 and sentenced to hard labor for life in the fortress Carlsten in Marstrand. Only after 26 years, he was pardoned in 1838 by King Charles XIV John.

During his time in prison he wrote his memoirs: " Lasse - Maja's besynnerliga äventyr " ( Lasse - Maja's strange adventure ). After his release, he decided to become a farmer and settled in Arboga. He died in 1845 and is located in front of the Holy Trinity Church buried.

In the church of his native town Ramsberg there is a memorial stone on Lasse - Maja with the inscription:

A few kilometers south of the church, in Morskoga, a trail begins with information boards about Lasse - Maja, who follows his hike adopted by his birth up to his relatives in Ösarhytta.
