Lasse Pirjetä

Leave Pirjetä ( born April 4, 1974 in Haukipudas ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League, among others for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins in its active period from 1989 to 2009.

Career

Leave Pirjetä began his career as a hockey player with Kärpät Oulu, for the first team, he made his debut in the then still second-class I divisioona at the beginning of the 1991/92 season. He spent the entire rest of the season but at the Tacoma Rockets in the Canadian junior Western Hockey League. Then, the center returned to Oulu, where he came for another year Kärpät in the second Finnish feature class to use, before moving to TPS Turku in the SM- liiga. With TPS, he was in 1994 and 1996 runner-up and won in the 1994/95 season, the Finnish Championship.

The 1996/97 season in Västra Frölunda Pirjetä spent in the Swedish Elitserien. For Frölunda, he scored a total of 23 points scorer in 53 games. After only one year, he left the club and stood during the next five years at Tappara Tampere, HIFK Helsinki and Oulu Kärpät stood in the SM- liiga under contract. 2002 Pirjetä selected at the NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as a total of 133 players from the Columbus Blue Jackets. With these he was able to win a regular place in the National Hockey League, before he was released to the Pittsburgh Penguins on 9 March 2004 in exchange for Brian Holzinger. He stood there for almost two years under contract, with the 2004/05 season failed and he spent that with his former club HIFK Helsinki in his native Finland due to a lockout.

After he started the 2005/06 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, changed the former Finnish national team on 20 January 2006 on the Kloten Flyers in the Swiss National League A. With the Flyers he reached the playoff semi-finals, in which the Flyers HC Lugano documents with 1:4. In the summer of 2006 Pirjetä left the club again and the Malmö Redhawks joined from the Elitserien with which he in the HockeyAllsvenskan, the second Swedish league, relegation at the end of season 2006/ 07. In the 2007 /08 season he came through injury only to a total of 14 missions. After the season he returned to Finland and was awarded a contract with the Pelicans Lahti, where he ended his career at the age of 35 years following the 2008/ 09 season.

Internationally

For Finland Pirjetä took at junior level only part in the European Junior Championships in 1992. In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the World Championships in 2002, 2003 and 2004, and the years 2004 and 2005 in the Euro Hockey Tour. In total he scored in internationals for Finland, which took place in the context of official tournaments four goals in 24 games and was a template.
