Features

The moth has a wingspan of up to 25 millimeters. Front and hind wings are white to yellow and dusted more or less dark. The forewings have four black to dark brown transverse lines on the hind wings there are three transverse lines. With the dark wing venation coarse radialstrahligen creates a grid pattern, which gave its name to the butterfly. The coloration varies basically little, but the drawing is quite variable. The transverse lines often flow together.

Similar Species

The females of the heath tensioner ( Ematurga Atomaria ) are the lattice tensioner similar in color and also diurnal.

Dissemination

The species is widespread in Europe. It comes from Italy to Scandinavia until well into it before. In the West, it is proved from the British Isles. In the east it extends to China, Japan and Korea. In the south to Anatolia and Iran.

Occurrence and flight times

The species is widely distributed in the open grassland. There are trained two generations. The first generation flies from mid-April until mid- June, the second most incomplete generation flies from mid-June to mid-August, in some areas overlapping generations. It is encountered in the lowlands up into the higher elevations of the mountains. However, in the highest positions he is missing. The moth is diurnal and nocturnal, he comes at night to light.

Reproduction

The greenish eggs are provided with a rough hexagonal pattern. The caterpillar is brownish green to reddish. A wide, white side stripe is present, while the topline is unclear pronounced. The doll is penetrated with a cremaster with a simple tip. They wintered, the first moths emerge then in mid- April of the next year.

Nutrition

The caterpillars live in different types of clover and alfalfa. The moths visit flowers.

Taxonomy and Nomenclature

The type appears in some works in combination Semiothisa clathrata. However, the genus Semiothisa is related to another group of species, mostly of tropical butterflies. The species is divided into several subspecies.
