Laulara

Laulara ( Lauloro, Dara Laulara ) is the capital of the subdistrict Laulara in the East Timorese district Aileu.

The place

To state capital Dili are from the place Laulara in a straight line about 5 km to the north, the district capital Aileu about 15 km to the south. The town lies on the border between the Sucos Dare ( subdistrict Veracruz, Dili district ) and Cotolau ( subdistrict Laulara, District Aileu ) and despite its proximity to the coast already 642 meters above the sea. The village has a community health center, a primary school and a pre- secondary school.

The subdistrict

The subdistrict Laulara forms a narrow strip between the district of Dili in the north and in the south subdistrict Aileu. To the west lie the districts of Ermera and Liquiçá, in the east of the sub-district Remexio.

Laulara divided into five Sucos: Fatisi, Cotolau ( Kotolau ) Madabeno, Talitu ( Talito ) and Tohumeta. The Sucos Bocolelo, Fucuculau and Maneluma were resolved with the local government reform in 2004.

In Subdistrict live 7,173 inhabitants (2010, 2004: 5,448 ). The average age is 17.4 years ( 2010, 2004: 16.2 years ). The largest language group here are the speakers of the national language Mambai.

68 % of households grow cassava, 66% corn, 58 % coconut, 54% coffee and 53 % vegetables.

From the UNDESA (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs ) a municipal solar projects have been built between 2005 and 2008 and seven water systems restored.

The administrator of the sub-district shall be appointed by the Central Government in Dili. In February 2014 this is Abilio Alves.

History

In Tohumeta there was the end of 1979 an Indonesian camp for East Timorese should be relocated for better control of the occupiers.

1984, the inhabitants were deported from Fatisi because their Suco suspected was to be a Falintil basis. They were brought to Dili and Aileu. By 1990, the Suco remained uninhabited.

During the crisis in East Timor in 1999, there was also in the sub-district Laulara to violence and deportations. So were houses of the AHI militia ( Aku Hidup dengan Integrasi / Indonesia) burned down in Talitu and families deported to Indonesian West Timor.
