Laurel is a city in Yellowstone County and is located in the state of Montana in the United States.
Geography
The city is located about 20 kilometers southwest of Billings, 120 kilometers north-east of Yellowstone National Park and the Yellowstone River and the Interstate 90 highway.
History
In 1806, Captain William Clark encamped, a member of the famous Lewis and Clark expedition at the mouth of the Clarks Fork River in the Yellowstone River near the present town of Laurel. This site was initially referred to as community " Carlton " and later changed to " Laurel ", on the basis of there occurring laurel rose bushes (English: mountain laurel shrub ).

In July 2009 there was a population of 6750 people, which means an increase over 2000 of 7.9%.
