Laurence Equilbey

Laurence Equilbey ( born March 6, 1962 in Paris ) is a French conductor and choir director.

Life and work

Laurence Equilbey began her studies in Paris and put them in Vienna, among other things, with Nicolaus Harnoncourt, continued. In Stockholm she studied with the renowned choral conductor Eric Ericson with Jorma Panula and, finally, she studied under Colin Metters in London.

In 1991 she founded in Paris in the chamber choir Accentus, with whom she had great success with the audience with a repertoire that ranges from A cappella music from the 18th century to contemporary music. For oratorios and operas they collaborated with numerous orchestras. Its privileged partners are the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris and the Orchestra of the Opera of Rouen. Among the orchestras and choirs from the German-speaking area that occurred under her leadership include the Concerto Köln, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and the RIAS Chamber Choir. The Camerata Salzburg, she first conducted in July 2012, on the occasion of her debut at the Salzburg Festival, among other works, the premiere of " Infin che ' l mar fu sovra noi richiuso " the Austrian composer Johannes Maria Staud was on the program.

In 2012 she founded to better meet their own requirements, the Insula Orchestra, which plays when needed on the historic instruments required in each case.
