Lauro António

Lauro António de Carvalho Corado Torres ( born August 18, 1942 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese film director.

Life

Born in 1942 in Lisbon, he moved with his parents at the age of 7 years to Portalegre, where he lived until the age of 14. There he began as a teenager to write about film in local newspapers, such as in O Distrito de Portalegre. Since 1958 back in Lisbon, in 1961 he took a degree in history at the University of Lisbon. There he became active in the film society movement, particularly through its membership in the Cineclube Universitário de Lisboa and the ABC, whose chairman he was.

He began to act, primarily in newspapers, for example in the Diário de Lisboa (1967-1975), in the Diário de Notícias (1976-1986), in A Capital, and in Sete, but also on television and radio of a film critic RTP / RDP. In addition, he directed the movie cinemas sales department Lusomundo ( Apolo 70 1969-1986, 1975-1977 Caleidoscópico, Foco 1973-1977 ), and published several books on film.

Our own work as a director, he started with several short films before with Sunken morning ( orig.: Manhã Submersa ) produced a first long feature film, based on the novel by Vergílio Ferreira. The film premiered at the 1980 Cannes Film Festival Premiere and found the attention of critics worldwide. He established António as a director of the Portuguese film.

Lauro António then produced a television series (1983-1984) for the public television RTP, under the title Histórias de Mulheres (German: stories of women ). The work by himself and the other participating directors lit it in different angles, the situation of women in Portugal after the Carnation Revolution. Under Antónios four articles was Casino Oceano, the 1983 Film Festival at the Casino Figueira had its premiere, and was filmed partly in the eponymous, lying next to the Festival Venue Casino Oceano.

As a director, he has since come only sporadically in appearance. Mid-1990s, he was program director for feature film for the private television channel TVI, where he also showed in the series Lauro António apresenta selected by himself Movies. 2009 showed the public RTP shot by António documentation for the 50th Anniversary of Humberto Delgado's presidential candidacy in 1959, one of the most important moments of resistance against the Salazar regime.
