Lausanne Opera

The Opéra de Lausanne is an urban opera house in Lausanne in the Swiss canton of Vaud. The Opéra de Lausanne presented next to opera and ballet performances and philharmonic concerts.

Building

The built 1869-1871, designed by Jules Verrey for the Société du casino casino Théâtre Théâtre de Lausanne ( also Théâtre de Georgette ) was opened on May 10, 1871. In the years 1931/1932 it was completely rebuilt by Charles Thévenaz, leaving only the outer walls of the theater were preserved; the auditorium of the Théâtre municipal now called Theatre was doing extended from 600 to 1101 seats. 1975-1976 the stage was modernized; the number of seats was reduced to 960. 2007 the theater had to be closed for fire protection reasons and could for basic alterations and extensions (including a completely new stage house ) only in October 2012 be reopened. The auditorium has 738 seats today.
