Lav Diaz

Lav Diaz or Lavrente Indico Diaz ( born December 30, 1958 in Datu Paglas, Maguindanao ) is a Filipino film director.

Life

Diaz, whose parents were both teachers at the local school, studied at Mowelfund Film Institute. He worked for a music magazine and experimented with photography and writing, before he dealt with the film production. In the 1990s, he lived for a time in New Jersey and New York, where his film Batang West Side was born. His films, most of which deal with the recent history of his native country, are present at international festivals and have received numerous awards. He is known among other things for the extraordinary maturity of his films. Evolution of Filipino Family, a family drama about the time of the Marcos dictatorship, which was created over a period of ten years, has a length of 660 minutes.
