Lawtey is a city in Bradford County in the U.S. state of Florida with 730 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Geography

Lawtey is around 10 km north of Starke and about 40 km southwest of Jacksonville.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 730 inhabitants distributed in 341 households. The population density was 197.3 inh. / Km ². 60.7 % of the population were white, 35.9 % African American, 0.4% Native American and 0.4 % Asian Americans. 1.2% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.4% in different ethnic groups. 2.1% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 34.1 % of all households lived in 32.4 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 65.9 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.49 persons and the average family size is 3.06 people.

27.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 20.5% were 20-39 years old, 28.2% were 40-59 years old and 24.6 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 42 years. 47.7 % of the population were male and 52.3 % female.

The average annual income was $ 31,572, while 18.9 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 100 % of the population.

Lawtey is crossed by U.S. Highway 301 ( SR 200). The nearest airport is Gainesville Regional Airport ( around 45 km south-west ).

The crime rate in 2010 was 69 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the low range. There were five burglaries and three thefts.
