History

Wilhelm Layher founded the company in 1945 for the manufacture of agricultural equipment and ladders made of wood. 1951, the first sales offices were opened in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Dusseldorf and Nuremberg. The son Eberhard Layher has also worked in his parents' business in 1965 and invented an ingenious design principle, the Layher scaffold flash which revolutionized the scaffolding. In 1974 he expanded it with great success to another variant, the Layher Allround scaffolding. The first foreign subsidiaries were founded in 1970 in the Netherlands, France and Switzerland. The Group now has five resulting domestic and 33 foreign subsidiaries; the domestic and the foreign subsidiaries are substantially since March 31, 2001 in Holding GmbH & Co. KG consolidated.

In Germany the operating business is mainly led by the following companies branches:

  • Wilhelm Layher GmbH & Co. KG - manufacturing and enterprise specializing for scaffolding systems and ladders based in Güglingen - Eibensbach. Managing Director of the Wilhelm Layher GmbH & Co. KG is Helmut Kreller.
  • Layher Structural Engineering GmbH - trading company for construction equipment, construction machinery, warehouse equipment and scaffolding systems, headquartered in Ulm. CEO is Hans Kächler.

The today facade scaffolding usual frame scaffolding in 1965 developed and distributed by Layher steel and aluminum. Due to the rapid assembly and disassembly, the Layher scaffold established on the market.

The Layher Allround scaffolding broke the conventional scaffolding equipment from steel pipes and couplings. The module structure consists of vertical assembly frames on which hole discs are mounted at a distance of 50 cm. These perforated plates serve as attachment points for horizontal and diagonal bracing. This technique allows eight connections in one plane, which was not possible with steel tube and coupler scaffolds. This type of modular scaffolding is now standard in scaffolding.

Based on these systems, among others, the event system for erecting temporary stages and grandstands was developed; it is based in the substructure on the Allround scaffolding. Today Layher in Germany has 31 offices and distribution center. Worldwide representation is Layher with 33 subsidiaries.

The company does not offer any Layher Scaffolding services. It acts only as a manufacturer and supplier of scaffolding companies.
