Lázně Libverda

Libverda ( German Bad Liebwerda ) is a spa town in the north of the Czech Republic. The community is located less than two miles north-east of Hejnice and around nine kilometers southeast of Frýdlant. Libverda part of the Liberec Region and Okres Liberec.

History

1381 Libverda was first mentioned in writing in the Urbarium Friedlander dominion, which shall be kept in the state archive in Decin (German Tetschen ). Originally inhabited pastoral settlement

Towards the end of the 16th century the mineral springs were discovered and increasingly being sought, which Liebwerda developed into the spa. The Saxon Elector Augustus I of Saxony and the Duke, Prince and Wallenstein could be sent to the natural mineral water from the Jizera Mountains.

In the late 18th century more spa facilities and the summer residence of the ruling in Friedland Christian Pillipp Clam- Gallas were established. In 1807, the Russian Grand Duchess Fyodorovna visited the spa. Seven years later, the composer, conductor and pianist Carl Maria von Weber spent a short time in Bad Liebwerda. He is said to have been inspired to a scene in his opera Der Freischütz from the path to Stolpichwasserfall. In the years 1840 and 1843, the Czech poet and linguist Josef Jungmann visited the spa. The place was from the mid-19th century to the judicial district of Friedland Friedland or the district.

Attractions

1931 was built above Bad Liebwerda on the road to Nové Město pod Smrkem a replica of the giant barrel on the Jaberlich. The Ausflugsgaststätte giant barrel ( Obří sud ), has the form of a large barrel, and is one of the main attractions of the place.

In the village the most famous attraction forms an ensemble of spa houses.
