Le Cellier

Le Cellier is a commune of the Loire-Atlantique department in the Pays de la Loire. Administratively, it is assigned to the Canton Ligné and the district Ancenis.

Geography

The western French village with 3764 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) located on the northern bank of the Loire 27 km east of Nantes. He is very rural.

History

The origin of the name Le Cellier is probably derived from the Latin Cellarium (, cellar ' ) from and probably refers to a wine cellar, which there used locally.

In the 17th century there was the family Chenu de Clermont, which was associated with the Prince of Condé, on the cities and castles of Champotoceaux and Oudon. One of their representatives had the palace built Clermont. This was in the 18th century, first in the family De Claye and then to the family of De La Bourdonnaye Liré. Under King Louis XVI. the property was to a royal merino sheep. These still existed until the Restoration, its director Jean -François Le Masne 1820 mayor of the municipality. 1793 was the property to the Juchault of Jamonières family.

During the revolt in the Vendée against the French Revolution, the property was occupied by the Republican army and the monitoring items of the Loire. 1816 bought by the coming of the Somme Maximilien Siffait (* 1780, † 1861), the district of La Gérardière, which includes the castle Château- Guy. Created under his leadership until 1830, the park Les Folies Siffait. Maximilien Siffait between 1822-1830 was also mayor of the municipality. He then left Le Cellier, but his son Oswald returned later and was mayor from 1841 to 1847. Nachzureichen is that Maximilien Siffait, was in dispute during his tenure in the dispute with the Baron Jamonières, further complaining that the Château de Clermont castle for themselves. Until the arrival of the railway end of the 1840s Le Cellier was an important river port. The first railway line was built on the towpath and at the height of the property of Siffait was a tunnel piercing for your train.

The pilgrims bars symbolize the two priories, which have existed in the earlier wine-producing community. Ermine is typical of the Duchy of Brittany, to which Le Cellier once belonged.

  • The Château de Clermont castle from the 17th century was the last residence of the French film actor Louis de Funès and is since 1941 a French cultural monument. Also the grave of Louis de Funès is located in the vicinity of the castle.
  • The Classicist pleasure palace Château de La Forêt was built in the years 1812-1814.
  • Les Folies Siffait called an architectural garden overlooking the Loire. It is a maze of scale in the landscape stairs and terraces, which was created 1820-1830 by amateurs Maximilien Siffait and his son Oswald. The plant, which is considered a French cultural monument since 1992, is overgrown in the meantime and is now in restoration.
  • The Villa Roy is a prestigious villa on the banks of the Loire, the mid-19th century, was built for the PICHERY family. Last descendant of the family was Augustine Roy, the house and park her niece inherited, which in turn sold the facility to the community. Building and garden are to be used in public after renovation.
  • The Chapelle Saint- Méen is a small chapel built in the 17th century, which is dedicated to the mythical Méen pilgrims to Rome from the 7th century. Pilgrimages from the environment are detected until the 18th century, when the site of lepers and other skin diseases sufferer, was investigated.
