Le Tholonet

Le tholonet is a commune with 2266 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in Bouches -du -Rhône, a department in southern France. It is situated near Aix -en- Provence and the Montagne Sainte- Victoire.

Others

The French painter Paul Cézanne came from 1897 here and gladly visited the restaurant at Le tholonet Bern, where he preferred duck with olives or stave, a Provencal stew, which he does with his friends, as the sculptor Philippe Solari, jointly took.

Cézanne rented occasionally a room in the secluded Château Noir (Black Castle ) to go around in search of motifs. The castle and its surroundings show several paintings by Cézanne, here came 19 oil paintings and 20 watercolors.

Georges Duby, a historian, is buried in Le tholonet.
