Le Tourneur

Location

Le Tourneur is bordered on the southwest by Carville, on the west by La Ferrière- Harang and Saint- Denis- Maisoncelles, in the north- west and north to Saint -Martin -des- Besaces, on the northeast by Brémoy, to the east by Saint -Pierre- Tarentaine, in southeast of Saint -Pierre- Tarentaine and south to the capital of the canton, Le Bény -Bocage. The nearest big city is Caen. Through the local area the Souleuvre flows.

History

In the Middle Ages Le Tourneur was the capital of a Sergenterie from 22 parishes. 1831 lived here 1,832 persons since the population declined sharply (1963: 738 inhabitants, 1999: 500 inhabitants). Meanwhile, the number of inhabitants rises slightly again. Like other places in the region was severely damaged in the Second World War, Le Tourneur. In the Church of Saint -Martin several art objects that had been classified as Monuments historiques, were destroyed.

Events

Since 1969 will be held on the last Sunday in March, the festival fête des jonquilles ( " Daffodil Festival " ) instead.
