Lê Đức Anh

Lê Đức Anh ( born December 1, 1920 in Truong Ha, Phu Vang district, Thua Thien Hue Province, Vietnam) is a Vietnamese general and politician.

Life

After participating as a member of the Việt Minh in the run of Ho Chi Minh August 1945 Revolution, led to the creation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) led on 2 September 1945, he began his military service in the North Vietnamese People's Army, the predecessor of the Vietnamese People's Army ( Quân Nhân Dân Việt Nam Đội ). First, he was political officer in a battalion, and then in the regiment 301 Following, he was initially from October 1948 to 1950 political officer in the Military Region No. 7 ( Dong Nam Bo) with its seat in Saigon. In this capacity he took 1951-1954 also participating in the Indochina War.

After the Indo-China Conference 1954 in Geneva, he became an officer in the General Staff of the People's Army and there promoted to colonel in 1958 ( Dai tá ). Between 1964 and 1968 he was head of the personnel department of the units of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam ( Viet-Cong ).

In 1969 he became commander of the Military Region No. 9 in the Mekong Delta ( Đồng Bằng Sông Cuu Long). After his promotion to lieutenant general ( Trung Tuong ), he took part during the Vietnam War at the Ho Chi Minh campaign against South Vietnam from December 1974 to April 1975 as commander of the units in West Vietnam ( Tây Nam Huong ). In May 1976 he was again commander of the Military Region No. 9 before he Ranked # 7 in Ho Chi Minh City was from June 1978 to 1981 commander and political commissar of the Military Region. As such, he was promoted in 1980 to Colonel General ( Thuong Tuong ).

Between 1976 and 1997, Lê Đức Anh addition, Member of the National Assembly was ( Quốc Hội Việt Nam ).

1981 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Defence and Head of the Political Department of the Ministry of Defence (BO Quốc Haiphong). In the same year he became commander of the Vietnamese Army during the occupation of Cambodia, and there promoted in 1984 to general.

Between 1982 and 2001 he was also a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam (BO Ban Chap Hanh Chính TRI Trung Uong Đằng Cong San Việt Nam ).

After his return, he was the successor of the deceased in the Official General Lê Trọng Tấn December 1986 to February 1987 Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army ( Tong Tham Muu Trưởng Quân Nhân Dân Việt Nam đội ). He then followed General Văn Tiến Dũng as defense minister and held that office until his replacement by General Đoàn Khue 1991.

On September 23, 1992, he was the successor of Võ Chí Công Chairman of the State Council, and thus President of Vietnam. This largely ceremonial post he held until his replacement by Trần Đức Lương on 24 September 1997.

For his services General Lê Đức Anh has won several awards and received, among other things, the Order of the Gold Star ( Huân Chuong Sao Vang ) and the Ho Chi Minh Order ( Huân Chuong Hồ Chí Minh ).
