Le Vaisseau

Le Vaisseau ( in German: big ship ) in Strasbourg is a scientific institution, whose design and construction was initiated by the General Council of the department of Bas- Rhin in Alsace. The 3-15 years suitable for children aged Vaisseau is barrier- free and shows all exhibitions in three languages: French, German and English. According to the motto " Science is fun! " Vaisseau the support parents and teachers with numerous activities such as Interactive permanent exhibits, temporary exhibitions, an educational garden, 3D movies or workshops. History

1998 housed the General Council of the department of Bas- Rhin in its rooms, the exhibition " The Children's Village " at the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie in Paris. Their success showed the interest of adolescents to engage in science. Hence the idea of a device can be discovered playfully in science and technology was born.

In January 2000, the decision of the General Council to build a science and technology center for children and young people fell. After the tender of an architectural competition, the architects Bernard Coakley and François Rohmer to be jointly responsible with the exhibition designer Jérôme Habersetzer to give the idea a concrete appearance.

The Groundbreaking takes place in August 2003 at a construction area of ​​1.8 ha in the Strasbourg area Neudorf. The name " big ship ", the project received by children of the holiday camps Wangenbourg based on research trips and great discoveries.

In June 2004, the extensive cultural program will be officially launched. After a trial period from January 6 to February 13, the Vaisseau will open on February 22.

Temporary exhibitions

An exhibition area of ​​the house is dedicated to every six years a specific topic. Last time was this " Dialogue in the Dark " on an area of ​​500m ², of which 400m ² in total darkness, the visitors could immerse themselves in the world of sense-perception until March 8, 2009. The subsequent exhibition joins thematically into the Year of Astronomy. "Planet Mars - an extraterrestrial exhibition" goes from 7 April to 30 August 2009 and offers discovery and research opportunities with the help of the young and older visitors can learn about the Red Planet and learn.

Since 22 September 2009 to 31 March 2010 there is the temporary exhibition "1000 & 1 color". It can be big and small visitors answer questions such as: "How was produced in the Middle Ages yellow color ", " What " color ", there are differences between Germany and France.
