Le Verdon-sur-Mer

Le Verdon -sur -Mer is a commune with 1366 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Gironde department in the region of Aquitaine. It belongs to the district Lesparre -Médoc.

History

In the eleventh century existed on the territory of the later Le Verdon a priory, which was the monastery of Cluny belonging.

Up to 1874 Le Verdon belonged to a few kilometers south-west to Soulac community; since 1911 it is officially called Le Verdon -sur -Mer.

During the Second World War was in Le Verdon a German mounting, which should serve to secure the Gironde.

In 2009, a new, as yet officially unnamed island, which increased by 2010 to 44,000 m² off the coast arose.

Traffic

From the Pointe de Grave, the northernmost tip of Medoc peninsula, is a ferry to Royan. Bordeaux is located about 100 road kilometers away.
