Lead guitar
The lead guitarist or lead guitarist in a band with several guitarists guitar solo.
The term lead guitarist is particularly common in rock music and jazz. Besides the actual solos, which are either improvised or arranged, the lead guitarist usually performs the melody, while the rhythm guitarist takes on the rhythmic accompaniment. The instrument of the lead guitarist is usually an electric guitar.
