Leadsheet

A lead sheet or lead- sheet is a simplified notation way of a piece, which consists only of the melody (possibly with text) and its harmonies in chord symbol font and is widely used in jazz and rock music. Larger collections of music, such as the Real Book, contain lead sheets. Lead sheets to the spontaneous games and Join the listed pieces, for example, in jam sessions, simplify and thereby allow freedom of interpretation. Compositions can easily be listed as Lead Sheet without a concrete instrumentation or an arrangement needs to be fixed.

Handling

When a pianist or guitarist reads from a Lead Sheet, it will use the chord symbols to accompany the melody. The chord symbols give the harmonic structure of the piece again, so that the interaction can be improvised with an ensemble about it. In addition to the chord symbols, a Lead Sheet contain further symbols; eg rhythmic accents to be played by the ensemble in unison. If not specified the tune a piano accompaniment, then there is no longer a lead sheet. Collections as listed pieces are still sometimes incorrectly referred to as " fakebooks ".

Collections of lead sheets or Fakemusic there under the name Fakebook. The most famous is the Real Book. The name also suggests that copyright laws are often not adhered to in such fakebooks.

Lead sheets, which possibly consist only of the text and chords are called Chordsheets. Some music collections, for example, songbooks, contain Chordsheets.

Other notations are the symbol tablature for guitar and lute in the Renaissance also for keyboard instruments (organ, harpsichord, clavichord ), or basso continuo chord for forming accompanying instruments (harpsichord, positive organ, theorbo ) in Baroque music.
