Łebień, Słupsk County

LeBien ( German Labehn, Stolp / Pomerania ) is a village in the northwest of the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship. It belongs to the rural community Damnica ( Hebrondamnitz ) in the powiat Słupski ( Stolp ).

Geographical Location and Transport

LeBien located in Pomerania, about 20 kilometers east of the county town of Slupsk ( Stolp ) on the western shore of the Łupawa ( Lupow ). Through the village, which is all surrounded by dense forests, performs a secondary road that Główczyce ( Glowitz ) in the province road 213 Stara Dąbrowa (Alt Damerow ) far from the Polish national road 6 ( former German Reich Straße 2, now also European Route 28). The nearest train station is Strzyżyno Słupskie ( Stresow ) at the track Stargard in Pomerania - Gdansk.

Place name

The Polish place name LeBien comes just as the German name Labehn before twice: the second location is 30 kilometers in a straight line in a northeasterly direction to the north of the city Lębork ( Lauenburg in Pomerania ).

History

Duke Mestwin II of Pomerania gave in 1274 the two villages Viatrow and Lippeno (this is either the location Liepen ( Lipno ) or Labehn ) the monastery Kolbatz. After that Labehn was (also Lebbene and Lebbehn called ) in the possession of a branch of Zitzewitz family. 1517, the village is owned by the family of the pond. After a pledge in 1670 to Georg Anton von Kameke it went in 1690 to the Privy Council and Court Marshal Johann Ernst of Grumbkow over. 1706 the ownership of Peter Friedrich von Zitzewitz ( 1689-1736 ) was sold. Because of the frequently changing owners, it was a so-called Walzengut.

In 1784 Labehn had a Barbican, a grain and a saw mill at the Lupow, three farmers, three Kossäten, a pitcher, a schoolmaster and a newly created Vorwerk called Friedrichshof ( Domanice ) for a total of 24 hearths ( households ). The village was occasionally called to the time the rushing water '.

1706 it passed again to the von Zitzewitz. From 1800 to 1836 Labehn was owned by the family of Kösteritz, and 1843 is one of Lewinski, until it was sold in 1852 to one of Gutzmerow. Through marriage, it passed into the hands of Kleist. The Colonel Leopold von Kleist († 1923) and his son of the same, Captain Leopold von Kleist († 1940), were the last economic owner, the inheritance went to Günter von Kleist. In 1938 the estate consisted of 1033 acres, of which 521 acres of farmland and 417 acres of woodland. Besides the good there was in Labehn 55 farms.

In 1905 lived in Labehn 237 inhabitants. Their number was still 210 in 1910, rose to 1933 to 346 and 1939 to only 328

By 1945 Labehn belonged to the village to the district Friedrichshof Stolp in Pomerania Region of the Prussian province of Pomerania. With the communities Bewersdorf (now Polish: Bobrowniki ), dams ( Damno ) Lojow ( Łojewo ) Viatrow ( 1938-45 Steinfurt, today Wiatrowo ) and Vieschen ( Wiszno ) Labehn was incorporated in the District Bewersdorf.

Before the end of World War II Labehn was occupied on March 9, 1945 by infantry of the Red Army. There were serious attacks against civilians. Several people, including villagers were killed, some were deported. On September 9, 1945 Labehn was placed under Polish administration. After Ostpommern penetrated Polish civilians now took possession of the houses and farmsteads. The entire village population was expelled by the Poles. Labehn was renamed LeBien.

175 and 102 in the GDR displaced from the poles of Labehn villagers were later identified in the Federal Republic of Germany.

The village is today a district of Gmina Damnica in powiat Słupski in the Pomeranian Voivodeship (1975-1998 Voivodeship Stolp ). Here now live 231 inhabitants.

Church

Before 1945, the population of Labehn predominantly Protestant denomination was. The village belonged to the parish of dams (now Polish: Damno ) in the church Stolp - old town in the Province of Pomerania Ostsprengel the Church of the Church of the Old Prussian Union. In the parish in 1940 a total of 13 sites were incorporated in 4900 church members. Last German minister was Pastor Magnus Erdmann.

Since 1945, the population of LeBien is almost exclusively Catholic. The village belongs to the parish Damno ( dams ) in the Office of the Dean Główczyce ( Glowitz ) in the diocese of Pelplin of the Catholic Church in Poland. Here surviving Protestant church members are incorporated into the Cross parish in Slupsk.

School

In the single-stage in 1932 elementary school Labehn a teacher taught 46 school children. Last German school governor was Max Probandt.
