Lebrecht, Prince of Anhalt-Köthen

Lebrecht of Anhalt- Köthen ( born April 8, 1622 Plötzkau; † November 7, 1669 in Köthen ) from the family of Ascanians was Prince of Anhalt- Plötzkau and 1665 Prince of Anhalt - Köthen.

Life

Leberecht was the second son of Prince Augustus of Anhalt- Plötzkau (1575-1653) from his marriage with Sibyl (1590-1659), daughter of Count Johann Georg Solms- Laubach. Leberecht completed his studies with a longer Grand Tour and earned after the favor of the Great Elector.

He followed his father and his two brothers Ernst Gottlieb and Emanuel 1653 in the government of Anhalt- Plötzkau. After the death of Prince Wilhelm Ludwig of Anhalt- Köthen he was Prince of Anhalt - Köthen in 1665, which he ruled jointly with his brother Emanuel. Plötzkau was again returned to Anhalt- Bernburg. The brothers ruled peacefully, where Leberecht was regarded as particularly pious and charitable; he built in Köthen a hospital with associated cemetery.

Under the company name The Pleasant he was accepted as a member of the literary Fruitbearing society.

Leberecht married on January 18, 1655 in Plötzkau Sophie Eleonore ( 1628-1675 ), daughter of Count Heinrich of Stolberg- Wernigerode Volrad. The marriage remained childless. When Prince of Anhalt- Köthen was succeeded by his brother Emanuel. Leberecht was buried in the royal crypt of the church of St. James in Köthen.
