Hornbeam Raufuß ( leccinum pseudoscabrum )

The hornbeam hornbeam or Raufuß Boletus ( leccinum pseudoscabrum, syn. Carpini L. and L. griseum ) is a species of fungus in the family Dickröhrlingsverwandten.

Features

The pitted, wrinkled hat is caramel and darker than similar Commons birch fungus. It can be up to 12 cm wide and tears at the age felderig on. The tube pad is bulged around the stem, first dirty - whitish, then grauoliv. The stem is covered with brownish black scales and is quite thick and festfleischig. The meat turns gray violet to the gate and turns black after a short time.

Ecology

The hornbeam Raufuß is a mycorrhizal fungus that is associated with the hornbeam. It occurs in parks and forests.

Importance

The hornbeam Raufuß is considered an excellent food mushroom. Like all species of the genus leccinum is the fungus in Germany protected and may only be collected in small quantities for personal use.
