Lechia Gdańsk

OSP Lechia Gdańsk (fully Ośrodek Szkolenia Piłkarskiego Lechia Gdańsk) is a Polish football club from the along the Baltic city of Gdansk. The club was founded in 1945, celebrated in 1983 when he won the Polish Cup football club its greatest success. Home ground of the club since the season 2011/ 12, the newly built PGE Arena. In the 2011/12 season Lechia plays in the Polish Ekstraklasa.

History

The club was founded in 1945 as KS BOP Baltia Gdańsk, but changed a year later his name in KS Lechia Gdańsk. 1948 succeeded in rising to the first division, from which one but as Table equal descent again. 1951 managed to rise again, the direct relegation followed in 1952. 1954 succeeded in re- return to the top flight.

1955 moved the club to the final of the Polish Football Cup, losing to Legia Warszawa. The following season was finished in third place.

1963 rose from Lechia Gdańsk from the premier league and commuted in the following years between the second and third Polish league. As a third division succeeded in 1983, the biggest success of the club's history, as they defeated Piast Gliwice in the cup final with 2-1. In the same year also achieved a promotion to the second division. As for the European Cup Winners Cup Winners' Cup qualifies you met at Juventus, but lost both games. Fans

A great rivalry between the fans of Lechia Gdańsk and those of Arka Gdynia. It is less about athletic backgrounds rather than geographical, since both camps claim to be, to be the " ruler of the North". On March 19, 2013, two members of a fan of the club died when the bus in Wloclawek a guard rail broke and fell on its side. 34 more fans were injured, including ten heavy, the other 24 fans received minor bruises and wounds.
