A chamber of Lechuguilla Cave

The Lechuguilla Cave is a limestone cave at Carlsbad, New Mexico. She is considered one of the most beautiful caves in the world and is located in Carlsbad Caverns National Park.

Description

With its extension of 205 km length, it is the seventh longest surveyed cave in the world and with its depth of 489 m, it is the deepest cave in the heartland of the United States. The east- west extent of the cave is 3,270 meters. The respiratory rate of the cavity of up to 80 km / h ( in passing anticyclones sucking big caves of air at low pressure systems blow air out of this ) but suggests a much greater extent of the cave.

In 1984 he was first exploring the cave after the entrance of the cave, which by extension of the bats was full, was shoveled.

The administration of Carlsbad Cavern National Park has obstructed the extremely nutrient-poor cave with an iron grating and granted only a few select researchers access, such as among others, the microbiologist Hazel Barton.

Movies

The BBC has in the fourth episode ( cave worlds) its nature documentary series Planet Earth, among other areas the so-called Chandelier Ballroom, part of the cavity, in the most bizarre crystal formations of the cave can be seen filmed.
