The fourth album by the British rock band Led Zeppelin, often simply referred to as Led Zeppelin IV, has no official name. It is sometimes called Four symbol called Zoso (because of the four symbols on the inner side of the cover ), Untitled or, due to the design of the first symbol. After the release of Led Zeppelin III in 1970, Jimmy Page is said to have decided to give the album a name to find out whether the record still sell well. Until 31 July 2006, Led Zeppelin was sold 23 million copies in the United States, IV, making it the third best-selling album in U.S. history. Worldwide it has sold 32 million times.

General

The album was recorded from December 1970 to March 1971 at Headley Grange, London and Los Angeles and produced and released on 8 November 1971.

On Led Zeppelin IV we find the classic Stairway to Heaven, which was often considered one of the best rock songs rated at all. The piece achieved high reputation, although it was never released as a single. More influential songs of the album are The Battle of Evermore, a duet of Robert Plant with Sandy Denny, and When The Levee Breaks, a piece that was originally written by Memphis Minnie. It was covered in 2004 by A Perfect Circle for their album Emotive; Parts of the drum track were sampled, among other things, by the Beastie Boys and used for their music. 2012, the title was played in a scene in the film Argo.

Alleged message

There were rumors that the song Stairway to Heaven a message with a Satanic content was hidden that you hear when you abspiele the song backwards. However, this could not be proven and was denied as well by Jimmy Page.
