Ledger line

Help lines are called linear drawing aids.

Descriptive Geometry

In descriptive geometry, they are useful as a guide in constructions or perspective drawings. While these lines are not part of the actual drawing, wear guides to be able to construct in a figure.

Notes in music

In musical notation, they are used to represent sounds that are outside the lines of the staff. Accordingly, they are used for particularly high or low passages.

In the piano etudes by Chopin, who hunt the virtuoso pianist across the registers, there are numerous examples of excessive use of auxiliary lines, for example in the final of the so-called Revolutionary Etude.

To avoid guides, you can change the clef on a staff, or add the instruction to form an octave.
