History

The original name in the founding of Lee 's Summit in 1865 by William B. Howard was The Town of Strother. 1868, the city changed its name to its present: The Town of Lee 's Summit. The part of Lee's is of unknown origin, but locals suspect the origin of Robert E. Lee in the Civil War or Dr. Pleasant Lea.

1912 began RA Long, the owner of a lumber company, his estate, Longview Farm, to build on the western edge of the city and partly in Kansas City. When it was completed, it consisted of a mansion, five barns and 42 buildings on over 680 acres. On the site was also a church, Longview Chapel Christian Church, which was completed in 1915. The farm quickly became known internationally as a tourist attraction.
