Lee Ho-cheol

Lee Ho - cheol Lee or Ho chol ( born March 15, 1932 in Wonsan, today's North Korea) is a South Korean writer.

Life

Lee Ho - chol was born into a peasant family in the port city of Wonsan in North Korea today. In July 1950, when he was a student of the 12th grade, he was recruited by the people's army and fell in the province Kangwŏn in captivity. After his release and his subsequent escape to the south he earned his living as a dock worker or worker in a pasta factory until he was hired as a security guard at the intelligence service of the U.S. Army.

During this time he began to write novels and short stories. With the release of exile In 1955, he debuted on the literary scene. 1962 brought him Panmunjeom the price for young talents of the magazine " Modern Literature ", and taken the 1962 Dongin Prize for Literature. However, the literary reputation did not mean that he took in the new society feet. His life was still that of an uprooted, alone and far from his home, from parents and siblings - had to cope with his life. Lee's writings are also a documentation of his personal history. What he is because of his own experiences, is the tragedy of the national history of Korea.

Currently, he is committed to the establishment of an academy for Korean literature in Yanbian, ie Autonomous Area of the Korean people in China. In addition, he is committed to the national reunification and has repeatedly visited on this occasion North Korea.
