Leela Majumdar

Lila Majumdar ( Bengali: লীলা মজুমদার, purple Majumadār; born February 26, 1908 in Kolkata, † April 5, 2007 ibid ) was a Bengali writer who is best known for her children's literature.

Majumdar was the daughter of Pramada Ranjan Ray and Surama Devi. Her uncle is the children's book author Upendrakishore Raychowdhury, the grandfather of Satyajit Ray. She spent her childhood in Shillong, where she went to Loretto Convent to school. Majumdar published her first story Lakkhichhara 1922 in the children's magazine Sandesh, published since the death of her uncle by her cousin Sukumar Ray. She graduated from the University of Calcutta. Her major works include Holde Pakhir Palok, Padipishir Barmibaksho, Shob Bhuture, TongLing, Maaku, Podi Pishir Bormi - baksho. From 1963 to 1994 she was co-editor of Sandesh. In their autobiographies Aar Konokhane and Pakdondi she tells of her youth in Shillong, their relationship to Shantiniketan and the All India Radio and their way through the Bengali literary scene.

Lila Majumdar won numerous Bengali literature awards including Ananda Puraskar and Shishu Sahitya Puraskar.
