Leesi ( historical German name also Leesi ) is the name of a village (Estonian küla ) in the Estonian rural community Kuusalu ( German Kusal ) in Harju County.
Location and History
Leesi has 43 inhabitants ( 2010). The distance to the Estonian capital Tallinn is approximately 67.9 kilometers and 23.9 kilometers to the local rural community " capital " - settlement Kuusalu. The village lies on the west coast of the peninsula Juminda ( German Jummida ) on the Baltic coast.
Leesi was first mentioned in 1517 as Leisy documented.
Between 1865 and 1867, the St. Catherine's Church was built of stone. It was necessary after the chapel, four kilometers away from Juminda was nearly expired. The organ of the church comes from the Estonian organ builder Gustav Terkmann ( 1850-1924 ). It was inaugurated on 29 May 1905.
