Legia Warszawa (ice hockey)

Legia Warszawa is a Polish ice hockey team from Warsaw, which was founded in 1927. The sports club of the same name belonging Hockey department plays in the 2012/13 season in the league, I second-rate.

History

The Hockey Department of Legia Warsaw was established in 1927. The first major success of the team was winning the Polish championship title in the season 1932/33, when the Polish Ice Hockey Federation PZHL Legia appointed together with the same number of points Pogoń Lwów to the national champion. In the following years the team seldom attended at the Polish Championship, before the Polish Hockey dominated in the 1950s and 1960s, when Legia won twelve league title in 17 years. In the 1970s, Legia was not able to continue our success and rose twice in the I league from each followed by immediate promotion back to the Playoff Final. After the renewed decline in the 1980/81 season the Hockey department was disbanded in the meantime due to financial problems. After more than two decades, this was reactivated in 2005 and since then plays in the second-class I league.
