A major development of the city began in 1892 when a Russian garrison was built, Russia bought from the Earl a part of the area and erected barracks. 1897 was a glassworks, especially for the production of beer bottles, built, which was another important factor for the development of the city. 1899 were stationed in the garrison of 4,000 soldiers. Due to the rapid development of the town, the city received on 17 March 1930 by the Minister of the Interior, in consultation with the Minister for Finance the status of a rural community with the tax law of a city. In the 1930s there were in the city post office, four general education schools, one trade school, and a National Institute of Meteorology. With the restoration of Poland's independence after the First World War, the garrison of Polish soldiers was used. The 1st and 2nd Infantry Regiment of the "Polish Legion" were the new residents of the barracks. After the Polish-Soviet war, among other things, a balloon battalion was stationed in the barracks. On September 13, 1939, the first soldiers of the Wehrmacht reached the place. On October 28, 1944, the Red Army occupied the place. On May 3, 1952 Legionowo received its town charter.
