Leif Erland Andersson

Leif Erland Andersson ( pronunciation: [ ˌ lɛj ː ː f at dəʁsɔn ]; * 1944, † 1979) was a Swedish astronomer.

Leif Andersson studied at the University of Lund. In 1968 he received an assistant position at an observatory in Sicily. He then attended the University of Indiana to complete his doctorate. Later he worked at the Lunar & Planetary Science Laboratory at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Andersson calculated that the first observable passages of Pluto and Charon would take place in the early 80s, but did not live long enough to see it for yourself.

Andersson was a child prodigy, he won the Swedish TV Quiz 10,000 kronorsfrågan ( " The 10,000 -crown- question " ) twice, the first time at the age of 16 years.

After his early death from lymphatic cancer at the age of 35 years of the craters on the moon Andersson was named after him.
