Leine-Heide Cycle Path

Starting point of the cycle route is in Leinefelde ( Thuringia), endpoint is Hamburg. Course

The Leine-Heide Cycle Route starts at the line source at Leinefelde in Thuringia calibration field and ends in Ehestorf at the Hamburg State border. It follows the course of the line, usually at a distance of a few hundred meters in some sections it also leads directly along the river. This is the way poor on inclines. After opening a leash in the Aller, the route follows the course of the River Aller and then bends at Ahlden to the east. After crossing the River Aller, the route runs through the Lüneburg Heath until after Ehestorf at the Hamburg State border. From here there is the possibility the cycle route Hamburg -Bremen to Hamburg Central Station to follow.

Landscape and sights

The Leine-Heide bicycle trail connects the highlands of the Leinebergland with the Lüneburg Heath and the City of Hamburg.

Leinebergland and Leinetal

The trail starts on the south by the line source at Leinefelde in Thuringia calibration field. Wooded slopes, orchards and small towns with partly historical buildings characterize this millenary culture landscape. The route through the hilly river landscape crosses the former inner- German border at Manor Besenhausen and leads to the border transit camp Friedland. About 20 km to the north reaches the way the university town of Göttingen with its numerous attractions. The Plesse Castle at Bovenden offers a wide view from the tower.

Behind the half- timbered town of Northeim Northeim Lakeland begins with the European bird sanctuary and bird observation tower at Coquille. Shortly after reaching the road Salzderhelden with the heroes castle. The nearby town of Einbeck center has on the marketplace on a number of very well preserved and richly decorated half-timbered houses as Eick ash and a bicycle museum. Between Kreiensen and Freden (Leine) you will pass the pumped storage power plant Erzhausen and has a beautiful view of the seltzer with its cliffs. The half-timbered towns Alfeld and Gronau between the seven mountains lie along the way. The Fagus Factory in Alfeld, designed by Walter Gropius in the Bauhaus style, changing exhibitions can be visited. From the Samtgemeinde Freden (Leine) cycling trails to bike path to the arts and to Hildesheim. Further north, close to the forest-rich region near Hildesheim. Again, we offer numerous views into the Leine valley.

A little further north is the Malbork castle, built in the mid 19th century in the Gothic Revival style, visible. The route heads further into the North German lowlands by the Leineaue to Hanover.

North German lowlands and the Lüneburg Heath

In the further course, it goes past the Nature Park Steinhude and the Surrounded by meadows, forests and bogs river landscape of the Aller- Leine valley. In Bothmer and Ahlden locks are near the road. In the Lüneburg Heath Change fields, meadows and forest areas from the typical for this landscape heathland. The trail passes Walsrode, Soltau Heide and known places like Schneverdingen or Wilsede. The route destination is ultimately the City of Hamburg. From Ehestorf at the border to Hamburg the otherwise good signs ceases completely. The last 19 km of Ehestorf to Hamburg Central Station should we follow the cycle route Hamburg -Bremen.

Transport links

On the entire route a railway line runs almost continuously more or less parallel to the route, so that access in many places is possible. Also with the car is an entry in the way everywhere easily accessible.

Type of trail

The road surface changes frequently between different states in asphalt, concrete slabs, with different material sections paved and gravel, but also dirt, some sandy sections in field and forest. The road is unsuitable in larger sections for racing bikes. North and south of the urban area of Hanover, there are unpaved sections of track that can be driven on dry pavement even at low speed only, provided no mountain bikes are used, and on wet roads are virtually impassable by bike.
