Lej da Gravatscha

The Gravatscha (Romansh dialect of Puter for the " lake of the great river bed load " ) is a small lake of created artificially and - especially in the upper part - a wetland in the Engadin in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. It lies at an altitude of 1698 meters right next to the Inn southeast of Bever.

The Gravatscha is not above ground fed by a few meters next door flowing Inn, but by two streams that originate in the northeast of the Muottas Muragl Area: The Müsella Ova and Ova da Val Champagna. A few meters long channel connecting at the deepest point of the lake with the Inn.

The Gravatscha and its smaller side lakes are remnants of a flooded gravel pit and a Altarms of the Inn, which was separated in the course of Innkorrektur from the Inn. It also has the Ova da Val Champagna diverted into the lake.

The Gravatscha today is an important breeding and resting place for birds with large biodiversity. It has the largest breeding density in Switzerland. The lake has numerous amphibians and fish species. The area has also become a popular destination thereby. With the exception of a grill and footpaths but lacking tourist infrastructure, so that the area is largely unspoilt.
