Lek Nana

Lek Nana ( Thai: เล็ก นานา; * 1924, † April 1, 2010 in Bangkok ) was a Thai businessman and politician.

Biography

Lek Nana came from an immigrant from India to Thailand Muslim family and was in April 1946 alongside Khuang Aphaiwong of the founders of the Democratic Party ( Phak Prachathipat ). Later, he was repeatedly elected as a candidate of the DP as a member of the Thai House of Representatives.

In February 1975, he was appointed by Prime Minister Seni Pramoj as Deputy Foreign Minister in the Cabinet. This office he retained also in the subsequent government of Kukrit Pramoj and turn Seni Pramoj until its fall in the wake of the student protests at Thammasat University and its crackdown in the massacre of October 6 1976. He was so representative and close associate of the Foreign Ministers Chatichai Choonhavan and Bhichai Rattakul.

Subsequently, he was until 1981 Honorary Consul General of Iraq in Thailand.

After Bhichai Rattakul 1982 Chairman of the Democratic Party was, he was appointed in April of this General Secretary of the party. He held until April 1986 this office.

In addition, he donated land to the Rama IV Road ( Thanon Phra Ram 4) in Soi Setsiri to the Democratic Party to establish the party headquarters. He also donated land for the construction of the Princess Mother Memorial Park as well as a hospital. Lek Nana was especially owners of land along Sukhumvit Road at a station of the Bangkok Skytrain, the Nana Hotel Nana Plaza and the Red Light District are named after him.
