Léman (department)
Léman was originally a French department, with its capital Geneva.
It was built in 1798 for the following field components:
- The territory of the Republic annexed by France Geneva,
- The Pays de Gex in the département of Ain,
- The northern part of the department of Mont- Blanc ( Bonneville, Cluses, Thonon -les- Bains )
- From 1800 also with the Mont Blanc massif, the cantons Chamonix, Saint- Gervais Saint- Gervais- les- Bains, Megève, Flumet and Sallanches.
Since 1800, the department was divided into three arrondissements:
- Geneva
- Bonneville,
- Thonon.
Geneva gained its independence in 1813 (enlarged to six communes of the Pays de Gex ) again, since 1814 as a member of the Confederation.
