Lemme Rossi

Lemme Rossi ( † 1673 ) was an Italian music theorist.

His major work on music theory Sistema musico, ouero Musica speculativa doue si spiegano i più celebri sistemi di tutti i tre generic published in 1666 in Perugia. In this work he developed an interval division of the octave into 31 equal sub- intervals and instrument tuning, which corresponds to the major third - meantone.

An equal tempered division of the octave into 31 undertones was developed independently by Lemme Rossi also by Christian Huygens ( 1629-1695 ).
