Len de l'El

The Len de l' El is a white wine grape that is grown primarily in the southwestern French wine region of Gaillac.

The Len de l' El delivers rich bouquet, rather low-acid wines. He is mostly dry expanded or used as a base wine for the production of sparkling wine. The vine appears ill-suited for the expansion in barrels, however, it provides very good reading, which have a fine, reminiscent of pears or peaches fruit. The Len de l' El is sensitive to late frosts. The lower operating income he was neglected in Gaillac against the Mauzac long time. Its share of the acreage was in 1960 only 1.6 %, but rose up again in 1990 to 20%. In 2007, an area under vines of 647 acres was levied.

The name comes from the Occitan word meaning " far from the eye." This refers to the fact that the grapes have very long stems and thus far away from the "eye", so are the bud from which they are grown. In French it is called according to Loin de l'oeil.
