Lenna

Lena ( also Lenna ) is one of the most widely used test images in computer graphics. It often is used when, for example in textbooks or slide shows the operation of certain algorithms is demonstrated, or the image resolution should be displayed. As a result, Lena has reached cult status in computer circles.

The picture is, among other reasons as well as a test object, because it is composed equally of large, simple surfaces and surfaces with many details.

However, it is slightly contaminated by noise, so that testing and evaluation of image algorithms may be easily affected by where noise or its statistical properties plays a role.

The original Lena image comes from the U.S. November issue of the men's magazine Playboy of the year 1972. It shows the Swedish Playmate Lena Söderberg ( named by Playboy " Lenna Sjööblom "). The original of the section used as a test image is in the images database of the Signal & Image Processing Institute, University of Southern California (USA). It measures 512 x 512 pixels and has a size of 768 KB.

With the displayed Lena Söderberg is known that she was born on March 31, 1951 in Sweden, 1988, learned by the journalists of a computer magazine from the misuse of their photos and 1997 for the 50th anniversary of the conference was the Society for Imaging Science and Technology invited where they signed autographs and stood for souvenir photos available. She is married and has three children.
