Leo G. Carroll

Leo Gratten Carroll ( born October 25, 1892 in Weedon, Buckinghamshire, England; † October 16, 1972 in Hollywood, California, USA ) was an English actor. The character actor starred in many Hollywood films profiled supporting roles.

Life

Leo Gratten Carroll was born into a wealthy English family, and was Catholic. According to the then reigning Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903) named. Between 1912 and 1934 he commuted between the stage in London and on Broadway back and forth. He then went to Hollywood.

Carroll played 1940-1959 in six feature films of British director Alfred Hitchcock mostly short, for the act, however, important supporting roles. He is the actor with the most speaking roles in Hitchcock films. One of his most famous (Short) appearances graduated from Carroll as intelligence chief in North by Northwest.

Because of its role in Tarantula it is sung in the opening song Science Fiction / Double Feature of The Rocky Horror Show.

After 1968, Carroll withdrew from the film business and died in 1972 in a disease caused by a cancer pneumonia.
